USS Abraham Lincoln is visited by Cambodia's best

On the morning of September 10th the Embassy coordinated a ship visit on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln for several top Cambodian officials and media outlets. The group was hosted by Charge d’affaires Piper Campbell, and included Deputy Prime Minister General Nhek Bun Chhay and the Commander of the Army and Deputy Commander-in-Chief General Meas Sophea among others. They set off from the VIP terminal at the Phnom Penh International Airport early that morning. After a two hour flight the C-2 military aircraft that carried the group safely landed on the aircraft carrier which is returning home after a tour in the Persian Gulf. On board Rear Admiral Van Buskirk greeted the guests and provided a tour of the ship including some up-close views of the action on the flight deck. Ship visits such as these serve to strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and Cambodia, particularly within the context of military to military cooperation. After the tour the group was invited for lunch and a gift exchange at which General Sophea offered his thanks for the opportunity and for the many ways the governments of Cambodia and the United States cooperate to enhance security in S.E. Asia.
